At GE, the boys in the back room have some up with something interesting. Meet the PT9200, which they call the "Twin Flex." Yes, it has a silly name that was decided by committee. But never mind that, get a load this: It's a double oven that goes in the same size slot as a single oven.
Most people don't load their full size wall oven all the way -- yourself probably included. Your full sized oven probably has 5 or 6 cubic feet of interior volume with three racks, but when's the last time you put more than one thing in it? Can't remember? Neither can We.
So the PT9200 is split into two oven compartments. The lower one is a little larger at 2.8 cubic feet, and it has convection. The top one is just a single rack normal radiant oven, but its small 2.2 volume means it heats up pretty quickly. It makes a pretty dandy toaster oven, too. And We don't know about you, but about 90% of the time the only thing We're chucking in Our oven is a frozen pizza, and it works great for that. The lower oven is 12-1/2" tall which ought to be enough for most people's idea of a roast or a turkey.
Of course, since it's a double oven you can run both compartments at the same time but at different temperatures. This'll help you in keeping up with those pesky Jonses next door who have a full sized double oven, but you know damn well they only use the second oven once a year, on Thanksgiving. You can get a leg up on them, too, because the lower oven also has true European style convection. We're never quite sure what's supposed to be so European about it, but it has a third heating element behind the fan that gives a little performance boost.
In the styling department, GE has clearly ripped off been inspired from some of the premium European brands, with a frameless black glass look that We think is pretty groovy. It's got trendy modern glass touch controls on the upper oven door, too.
Refreshingly for a compact specialty appliance, this model isn't obviously missing anything, which is a stunt manufacturers like to pull that continually gets Our goat. Yes, it has self cleaning. Yes, it has a ball bearing extension rack, just like GE's big ovens. Yes, it even has GE's specially coated self-cleaning oven racks, which is a good thing because that roller rack is awfully convenient, but it's a major pain in the rear to remove. It even has a temperature probe in the lower oven.

Hidden Bake Element - The heating element is located beneath the oven floor, where it is protected from spills, drips, and impacts that could result in costly damage. This leaves the bottom of the oven clean and smooth, better looking, and easier to clean. |
|
Convection Cooking - Utilizes a built in fan to circulate hot air throughout the oven compartment during baking and roasting. Convection results in more even cooking results even across multiple racks. |
|
ADA Compliant - Certified at the time of manufacture to comply with federal guidelines for use and accessibility for users with disabilities. |
|
Split Single/Double Oven - Has two ovens, but fits in a space normally suitable only for a single oven! |
